Afghan Taliban govt announces prisoner swap with US

The Taliban administration claimed that Qatar mediated the agreement when it declared on Tuesday that the United States had released an Afghan prisoner in exchange for US inmates.

“An Afghan fighter Khan Mohammad imprisoned in America has been released in exchange for American citizens and returned to the country,” the Afghan foreign ministry announced in a statement. Mohammad had been caught “almost two decades ago” and had been serving a life sentence.
