Charter of new Bangladesh to be formed: Chief Adviser

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser, stated today that a new Bangladeshi charter will be created by fostering national unity through dialogue.

“…what we want to form is to make a charter of the mass uprising, which will be the charter of new Bangladesh. It will be based on unity. There will be elections; there will be all but we should not move from the charter,” he said in his opening speech at an event here.

At the event, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus received reports from four reform commissions with detailed proposals for state reforms at his Tejgaon office.

According to Prof. Yunus, all parties will sign the charter, which will be a national pledge rather than a party one.

“It will be a charter of Bangali nation and we will move forward bearing it in our heart,” he added.

The chief adviser stated that the charter will be a crucial document and that elections will be held in accordance with it. If the elections are not held in a united manner, the charter will be lost.

He referred to today’s incident as a historical occasion and stated that it will live on in history.

The chief adviser stated that today’s program is an essential component of that history, pointing out that the country was reborn from ruins. “These reports are not unique. The reports we have discussed today are undoubtedly significant for our nation. “No one will dispute that,” he continued.

“The vision of a new Bangladesh that we aspired to build rested on your shoulders (members of the commission). You have drafted the framework for those dreams, marking the beginning of a new chapter,” Prof Yunus told the members of the reform commissions.

In his concluding speech, the chief adviser stressed removing overlapping and repetitions in the reports of the reform commissions so that clear reports could be presented before the nation.

“We emerged from it (mass uprising)…justification is that we are part of it,” he stated, urging everyone to uphold the spirit of the July revolution. We must remember it.

Prof. Yunus emphasized the importance of fostering national unity in order to realize the goals and objectives of the populace.

The chief adviser received briefings from the heads of the Constitution Reform Commission, Election Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, and Police Reform Commission during the event.
