The eldest son of US President-elect Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., announced on Monday that he will be joining an online betting company as an advisor after his father won the 2024 election.
After winning a legal struggle to be able to accept bets, Kalshi was one of several such businesses that permitted individuals to place bets on the US presidential election.
“On Election night at Mar-a-Lago, while biased outlets called the race a coin toss, my family and close friends used the prediction market @Kalshi to know we won hours ahead of the fake news media,” Trump Jr. said on X.
“I immediately knew I had to contribute to their mission. Today, I am proud to announce that I am joining Kalshi as a strategic advisor.”
Trump Jr. declared that it was “time to trade” on whether departing President Joe Biden would provide preemptive pardons to former Republican legislator Liz Cheney, a harsh critic of Trump senior, and former White House Covid advisor Anthony Fauci.
Trump Jr. was welcomed to Kalshi by CEO Tarek Mansour, who wrote on X, “I can’t think of anyone better to help drive this mission.”
Millions of dollars were wagered on the outcome of the 2024 presidential election in the United States following a last-minute court decision that favored Kalshi.
Prediction markets were often at odds with opinion polls, frequently predicting a Trump victory while surveys showed a much tighter race with Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris.
