Norwegian PM extends strong support to Bangladesh’s ‘much-needed’ reforms

The interim government in Bangladesh is working to implement “much-needed” reforms and hold free and fair democratic elections, and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store has stated his full support for these efforts.

“I have followed developments in Bangladesh over the past year closely, and I am writing to express my strong support for your efforts to initiate much-needed reforms and conduct free and fair democratic elections,” he wrote in a letter sent to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Gulbrandsen, the Norwegian ambassador in Dhaka, visited Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus at his Tejgaon office today and gave him the letter.

Prime Minister Gahr Store stated in the letter that upholding the rule of law and promoting political stability and public trust depend on an inclusive and transparent electoral process.

“I particularly welcome your interim government’s commitment to protecting human nights and promoting environmental sustainability,” he said.

According to the Norwegian premier, these concerns are crucial for the global society and call for cross-border cooperation.

He added that the core of Bangladesh’s efforts to house the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is the preservation of human dignity.

Gahr Store gave his word that Norway would continue to help Bangladesh through this crucial period of change.

“I wish you and the interim government every success as you guide the people of Bangladesh towards a more prosperous and democratic future,” the letter read.
