As party members flocked to the airport road to bid party chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia farewell on her journey to London for advanced medical care, the BNP has apologized for the severe traffic congestion on many city routes on Tuesday.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed the party’s sadness in a statement today.
The statement claims that the day’s severe traffic jams were caused by the people’s priceless affection for Khaleda Zia, who has long been the target of unjust anger.
From her home in Firoza, Gulshan, to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, a large crowd of people, including BNP activists, crowded the streets to bid the BNP president farewell and wish her a speedy return home after a successful medical procedure overseas.
“This caused various inconveniences to many citizens on that day. Considering the situation, we expect the people of Dhaka to look kindly on the temporary inconvenience in their movement on that day,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
“The countrymen are aware of Begun Khaleda Zia illness as she was subjected to the wrath of the fallen fascist Sheikh Hasina government for a long period.”
“The countrymen also remember that Begun Khaleda Zia, the pioneer of the movement to restore democracy in Bangladesh, didn’t compromise with any unjust but served jail term in a false and fabricated case filed by the previous government showing full respect to the prevailing laws of the country. While in prison, her physical condition continued to deteriorate due to the lack of advanced medical treatment.”
Mirza Fakhrul claimed that she was denied permission to have treatment overseas in spite of numerous appeals from the family and the BNP.
The executive decision of the present interim administration freed the BNP head from prison following the fall of the fascist Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. The process of sending her overseas for medical care was started, nonetheless, because her physical condition did not significantly improve.
