UPDF man killed during army-led joint drive in Rangamati

Early today, a suspected member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot and killed in a confrontation between UPDF members and combined troops headed by the Bangladesh Army in the Perachhara area of Rangamati district’s Naniarchar Upazila.

It was said this evening in an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press statement.

At around 5:30 am, the joint troops began a search after intelligence provided them with information of a UPDF hiding.

However, after realizing that the police were there, the terrorists started shooting at them, which led to a gunfight as the police returned fire.

One of the UPDF (main) soldiers who was discovered later passed away instantly, but his accomplices were able to flee the scene.

One M-16 assault rifle, two rounds of MG/Sniper ammo, ninety rounds of rifle ammunition, one walkie-talkie set, and twelve cell phone sets were later found during the search.

According to ISPR, the army was still working to find the terrorists who had escaped.
