9,91,713 Bangladeshi workers were employed abroad between January 1 and December 28, 2024.
“The trend of overseas employment is satisfactory as 9,91,713 job seekers went abroad with employment till December 28,” an official of Bangladesh Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) told BSS today.
Of all the foreign job searchers, he claimed, 60,180 women and 9,31,533 males traveled overseas for work within the allotted time.
The most recent data from the Bangladesh Bank shows that during the first 21 days of December in the fiscal year 2024–25, expatriate Bangladeshis sent more than US$2 billion in remittances.
According to the report, worker remittance inflows from July to November of this year totaled $11.14 billion, which represents a roughly 26% rise over the same period in the prior fiscal year.
Speaking with Mohammad Jahirul Alam Majumder, BSS Deputy Director (ongoing charge) of BMET, he stated that for the past nine months, the inflow of remittances has significantly increased in tandem with the income of expatriates.
He said even then, a record amount of remittance came to Bangladesh in the current year.
“We’ve been working to increase number of overseas migrant workers as well as ensure the rights and protection of them,” the BMET officer said.Experts said that expatriates have sent the money saved from their regular necessary and other costs to the country.
They suggested that since the need for skilled labor would grow in many nations, the government should spend in training nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
To produce skilled job seekers, the government established numerous training facilities in various districts in addition to skill-development initiatives.A diploma in shipbuilding engineering, refrigeration and air conditioning, general mechanics, electrical machine maintenance, auto CAD 2D and 3D, welding (6G), catering, mason, Korean, Arabic, canton, Japanese, and other languages are among the many trainings that job candidates typically receive.
The government also encouraged documented overseas employment, as an important component of earning foreign currency.
Earlier, the government declared the overseas employment sector as a “thrust sector” with maximum stress upon further expanding job markets for the Bangladeshi job seekers abroad.
