Police working relentlessly to control crime: IGP

Baharul Alam, the Inspector of General of Police (IGP), stated today that his force is making a concerted effort to lower a variety of crimes, such as murder and robbery, throughout the nation.

“Police are working relentlessly to control the crimes like theft, robbery and murder across the country . . . We want all-out cooperation of students. We all have to prevent it together,” he told a meeting.

The IGP was speaking at the 41st annual general meeting (AGM) of the ‘Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association’ at Rajarbagh here this noon.

Referring to the fire incident in Bangladesh Secretariat, he said, “The investigation into the fire incident is underway . .  . The enquiry committee will provide details in this connection.”

The police chief said, “The law enforcement agencies are taking every incident of threat very seriously. But nothing found serious so far.”

“The people of Bangladesh did not want to see such a role of police what they performed during July-August ‘Anti-Discrimination Students-People Movement,'” stated Sheikh M. Sajjat Ali, Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), who participated in the event.

According to him, it is necessary to examine the cause of the public’s animosity toward police officers.

“If the police could have taken the right decision even 72 hours before on August 5, 2024,  there won’t have been so many causalities,” he added.
