Following fruitful interactions with the local youth, academic community, government representatives, and media, NASA Chief Astronaut Joseph M. Acaba has wrapped up a successful tour to Bangladesh.
According to a news release from the US embassy, he engaged in interactive sessions with kids, encouraging them to pursue professions in STEM, robotics, space science, research, and education.Acaba made his first appearance in Dhaka on Saturday, December 14, to interact with the media, academia, and young people there.
Acaba talked about how space exploration may help solve global issues like the climate crisis and advance technology during the tour.
Acaba discussed NASA’s contributions to science and technology worldwide as well as how the Artemis Accords might help Bangladesh through joint space exploration and technological innovation initiatives.
In order to encourage more cooperation between NASA and Bangladesh’s expanding space and technology industries, the Artemis Accords advance ideals for a secure, peaceful, and successful future in space.
Acaba is a hydrogeologist, educator, and former Peace Corps volunteer from the United States.
He was the first person of Puerto Rican descent to be selected as a NASA astronaut candidate in May 2004.
Acaba was named head of the Astronaut Office in 2023. During his three missions as an astronaut, Acaba spent more than 306 days in space, conducting ground-breaking scientific research and spacewalks on board the ISS.
