Bangladesh condemns illegal Israel aggression in Syria

Anglo-The massive Australian mining company Rio Tinto said Thursday that it would invest $2.5 billion to increase its production of lithium carbonate, a crucial component of batteries for electric vehicles, in Argentina.

“Rio Tinto has approved $2.5 billion to expand the Rincon project in Argentina, the company’s first commercial scale lithium operation,” the announcement read.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), 60% of the world’s lithium reserves are found in the so-called Diamond Triangle, which spans Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile and includes the mine in the northwest Salta region.

By 2028, Rio Tinto’s investment in Rincon is expected to increase its annual production capacity from 3,000 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes.

Bangladesh has urged all Syrian parties to maintain calm and peace in the Middle Eastern country while Dhaka is closely monitoring the recent evolving developments in Syria.

“Bangladesh affirms its unwavering support for the Syrian people and their choices during this critical period and urges for all parties to maintain calm and peace in the country,” read the statement.

According to the statement, Bangladesh also asked the Syrian Transitional Government and all other parties involved to use moderation, respect Syrian aspirations, and seek a peaceful conclusion via dialogue.

Bangladesh urged the international community, especially the UN, to step up efforts to preserve humanitarian values, save civilian lives, and promote an inclusive political solution in line with UNSC Resolution 2254.

Bangladesh further exhorts all stakeholders to work toward nation-building in Syria that reflects the will of the Syrian people.

“Ensuring a path toward inclusive democracy and sustainable peace remains essential for long-term stability in the region,” said the statement.
