CHT adviser for introducing innovative knowledge-based education system

Speaking at a gathering on “International Hill Day-2024,” Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs (CHT) Adviser Supradip Chakma emphasised the importance of a creative knowledge-based education system in bringing about social change.

“By adapting environment and maintaining its balance, we have to attain quality expertise at our own quality, skills and empowerment along with innovative power, the adviser said.

He was the main speaker at the “International Hill Day-2024” celebration held at the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex Seminar Hall in the Bailey Road neighbourhood of the capital.

According to Supradip Chakma, innovative educational systems are essential to achieving a sustainable future because, with high-quality education, the inhabitants of the hilly region should align their perspectives with those of the modern world.

Referring to the need for modernizing the hilly nature and environment, he said, “The environment must be used properly to maintain natural balance. Bamboo is a very effective element in protecting the environment. It should be seen whether bamboo can be recognized as an agricultural resource or not.”

He advised all concerned to be more careful in conserving and using the water of Kaptai Lake.

“We need to find more innovative processes to retain and use of water of the rivers, canals and streams in the right way,” he added, stressing on creating mass-awareness to protect the environment.

CHT affairs secretary AKM Shamimul Haque Siddiqui presided over the discussion.

Senior Secretary Sudatta Chakma, Chairman of the Taskforce on Repatriation and Rehabilitation of Tribal Refugees Returning to India, M Aminul Islam and Pradip Kumar Mahottam, the ministry’s other secretaries, Ripon Chakma, Vice-Chairman of the CHT Development Board, Jiruna Tripura, the Chairman of the Khagrachhari Hill Tracts District Council, Kajal Talukder, and Professor Thanjama Lusai, the Chairman of the Bandarban District Council, were among those present.

The museum and collecting facility, located on the fifth floor of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex building, was previously opened by advisor Supradip Chakma.
