Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, a finance consultant, today advised businesspeople to spend money on research and education in order to close the knowledge and skilled labour shortage in the industrial sector.
According to a press release, the adviser made these statements while serving as the main guest at the East West University (EWU) Graduate Diploma in Leather, Leather Goods, and Footwear Management program celebration ceremony, which was held on the university’s campus in the city.
Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed underlined that long-term investments in research were the foundation of the success of successful individuals like Elon Musk and Bill Gates, who did not create their ideas alone.
He highlighted the irony that while business leaders in Bangladesh often complain about the lack of skilled manpower, they do not invest in educational and research institutions.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, a former governor of Bangladesh Bank and Chief Adviser at EWU, presided over the ceremony. The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) representative in Bangladesh, Hoe Yun Jeong, the vice chancellor of EWU, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, and the senior vice president of the Bangladeshi Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association were among the other notable speakers. Mohammed Nazmul Hassan, Mohammed Walid Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Finance Division, Professor of EWU’s Department of Business Administration, and Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Program Director of the Graduate Diploma in Leather, Leathergoods, and Footwear Management Program.
The ceremony was attended by EWU diploma graduates, faculty members, Officers from different sections, officials from the Ministry of Finance, and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), among others.
