The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Bangladesh embassy in Beirut, and the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Expatriates’ Welfare, and Overseas Employment helped 105 Bangladeshis who were stuck in war-torn Lebanon return home Thursday night.
They arrived back on December 5 at 11 p.m. on Emirates Airlines flight EK-584, which was funded by the government of Bangladesh.
With this latest repatriation, 963 Bangladeshis have safely returned from Lebanon across nine aircraft.
The returnees were met at the airport by representatives of IOM, the ministries of foreign affairs, and the ministries of expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment.
The IOM provided each individual with Taka 5,000, essential food supplies, and basic medical care.
To learn about their experiences in the midst of the ongoing fighting, the officials spoke with the returnees.
Notably, a recent bombing event in Lebanon is claimed to have killed one Bangladeshi expatriate.
In light of the current unrest in Lebanon, the government has reaffirmed its pledge to pay for the repatriation expenses of any Bangladeshis who desire to return home.
The Bangladeshi Embassy in Beirut is still working to make sure those who decide to stay safe.
