Nahid urges Saudi Arabia to invest in IT sector

Md. Nahid Islam, the adviser for posts, telecommunications, and information technology, has asked Saudi Arabia to make investments in Bangladesh’s IT industry, specifically in high-tech parks.

“The present government is eager to strengthen its existing relationship with Saudi Arabia, ensuring that all ongoing projects between the two countries continue,” the adviser said this in a meeting today with Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Essa Youssef Essa Al Duhailan at the secretariat.

According to a press release, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador commended the interim administration and stated his confidence in its ability to steer the nation towards prosperity.

The envoy gave the assurance that Saudi Arabia supports Bangladesh and will do so going forward, providing assistance as required.

He emphasised that over 3.2 million Bangladeshis are employed in Saudi Arabia at the moment, making a substantial contribution to their homeland. They remit $5 billion USD a year through official channels, while an additional $5 billion USD is sent through unofficial means.

The advisor promised to speed the passport renewal procedure for Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia in response to the ambassador’s request to give priority to the 69,000 unregistered persons living in Saudi Arabia.

Ambassador Al-Duhailan added that Saudi Arabia is interested in increasing its investment in Bangladesh, underscoring the significance of strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

He said that they would confer with Saudi IT specialists to investigate investment prospects in the event that the ministry submitted a proposal for funding in the IT industry.

Nahid promised to take steps to prevent Bangladeshi media from disseminating inaccurate information on any nation, including Saudi Arabia.

Bilateral interests were discussed as the meeting came to an end.
