Based on a previous toll provided by the European Avalanche Warning Service, rescuers in Austria discovered the body of a Slovak man killed in an avalanche on Saturday. This is the 31st death in the nation’s current ski season.
When the avalanche occurred on Friday, the 40-year-old guy was skiing on the slopes of Plattenspitze Mountain in the Salzburg region.
Due to strong gusts and the possibility of additional landslides, a search had to be halted at around midnight. According to authorities, the body was discovered beneath two meters (6.5 feet) of snow when rescuers arrived at the scene by helicopter on Saturday.
More than 100 people have died across the European Alps in one of the most deadly ski seasons of recent years.
