Bangladesh Pledges to Safeguard Religious Sites at UN Conference

Bangladesh was represented at today’s United Nations Global Conference on Safeguarding Religious Sites: A Multistakeholder Approach in Cascais, Portugal, by H.E. Mr. Md. Touhid Hossain, Hon. Adviser for Foreign Affairs.

During his speech, he reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to protecting places of worship and promoting interfaith understanding. He highlighted actions of solidarity, citing the recent protection of Hindu temples by young Muslim students during a significant festival as an example of the spirit of peaceful coexistence.

Through inclusive policies, national holidays for many religious events, and openness through open media access, the Hon’ble Adviser underlined that the government of Bangladesh guarantees equal respect for all faiths. He urged international cooperation to counteract disinformation efforts that threaten sacred sites and undermine interfaith harmony.
