According to police, at least thirty persons have been arrested by members of the joint forces during a nighttime drive across the port city in relation to the murder of attorney Saiful Islam Alif.
During a violent altercation between the Jote supporters and police yesterday, Advocate Alif was allegedly hacked to death by the supporters of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari.
The altercation started after Chinmoy was imprisoned on sedition charges after the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court denied his bail request.
After verification, the detainees would be shown as apprehended in the Alif murder case, according to Kazi Tarek Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), who confirmed the arrest.
