A reputable legal and investigative firm should be hired by the government to help evaluate large power generation contracts signed during Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian leadership from 2009 to 2024, the National Review Committee on Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources suggested today.
The committee, headed by Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, stated in an unprecedented resolution that it required additional time to do additional investigation of other contracts, both unsolicited and solicited.
According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the committee is gathering information that could result in a possible contract renegotiation or cancellation in accordance with international arbitration laws and procedures.
“To facilitate this, we recommend the immediate engagement of one or more top-quality international legal and investigative firms to assist our committee,” the review committee said in its resolution.
It stated that it wants to make sure that its investigations adhere to global norms and are appropriate for use in arbitration and international talks.
Several contracts are presently being thoroughly investigated by the committee.
These consist of the following: Ashuganj 195 MW gas, Bashkhali 612 MW coal, Meghnaghat 583 MW dual fuel, Meghnaghat 584 MW gas/RLNG plant, Adani (Godda) BIFPCL 1234.4 megawatt coal fired power station, Payra 1320 MW coal and Meghnaghat 335 MW dual fuel.
