BRRI Director Dr Md Abdul Latif gets BAS Gold Medal

The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal (BAS-National Professor Dr. M Innas Ali Memorial Gold Medal Award 2021) was presented to Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, Director (Administration and Common Service) of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), today in recognition of his exceptional accomplishment and significant contribution to the biological sciences.

According to a news release, President of BAS Emeritus Professor Dr. A K. Azad Chowdhury presided over a Gold Medal Award Ceremony held at the National Science and Technology Complex in the Agargaon neighbourhood of the city.

The main guest was Dr. M. Zahid Hasan, Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics at Princeton University in the United States. Prof. Dr. Haseena Khan, the BAS Secretary, was also present.

Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, a renowned agricultural scientist in the nation, was born in 1965 in Chowkibari village in the Bogra district’s Dhanut upazila.

In 1987, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Ag) with honours from the Bangladesh Agricultural University. He graduated from the University of Putra Malaysia in 2001 with a PhD in molecular biology.
 
He is currently a senior scientist of Bangladesh’s National Agricultural Research System (NARS).

From 2010 to January 2012, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Putra Malaysia. From May 2012 to 2014, he was a senior research fellow there.

His 174 research papers have been published in both domestic and international reputable publications.
