An exciting Presidential Election Watch Party was held today at the American Centre in Dhaka by the U.S. Embassy, providing participants and young people from Bangladesh with a rare chance to have a personal look at the American voting process.
According to a news release issued here, the event gave civil society members and youth leaders a forum to observe and discuss the U.S. Presidential Election, its importance, and the influence of youth participation on democracy.
Interactive events included two panel discussions, two U.S. speakers, including a reporter from Bangladesh, and a fake election where participants cast their votes for their favourite American candies. Participants also watched live updates from the United States as election results began to unfold, offering the invitees a front-row seat to this critical event.
“The U.S. electoral process is a testament to democracy in action,” said the US embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Megan Bouldin.
“By engaging Bangladeshi youth in this experience, we are fostering a better understanding of democracy and the importance of civic engagement, “ she said. She hoped this event inspires future leaders in Bangladesh to recognize the power of their voices in shaping their own democratic processes.
This watch party is a part of the U.S. Embassy’s efforts to strengthen cross-cultural ties and promote democratic values, the release added.
