Govt appoints Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury as new PR to UN

Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury has been named by the government as Bangladesh’s new ambassador and permanent representative (PR) to the UN in New York, according to a Sunday order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He will take over for the incumbent Permanent Representative to the UN, Muhammad Abdul Muhith, who is scheduled to retire in December of this year.

November 11, 2020 saw Chowdhury take up his position as ambassador at the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu.

Chowdhury worked in a variety of roles at Bangladesh’s embassies in New Delhi, Islamabad, and New York during his diplomatic career.

He held posts in the administration, external publicity, multilateral economic affairs, protocol, United Nations, South East Asia, and foreign service academy divisions at the foreign ministry’s Dhaka headquarters.

After graduating from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1998, Chowdhury became a member of the Bangladesh Foreign Service.
