Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has received an invitation from Egypt to take part in the D-8 Summit, which is set for later this year.
According to a statement released by the foreign ministry today, the invitation was delivered by Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy on Wednesday at a meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.
Leaders from the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation—a consortium of eight developing countries, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey—will assemble for the summit, which Egypt will host.
The organization was officially established through the Istanbul Declaration on June 15, 1997, with a mandate to enhance development cooperation among its members.
The primary goals of the D-8 are to strengthen the member states’ positions in the global economy, foster new opportunities in trade, promote participation in international decision-making processes, and improve the standard of living within the member countries.
Ambassador Fahmy expressed confidence in Bangladesh’s sustained progress toward a better future and reaffirmed Egypt’s continued support for the country’s developmental journey.
Key topics including trade diversification, innovation, and economic cooperation are anticipated to be the main topics of discussion at the D-8 summit. Member states will cooperate to address global concerns and promote growth for all.
