X says Brazil service restoration ‘inadvertent’ and ‘temporary’

The social network X, owned by Elon Musk, announced on Wednesday that its services have been restored in Brazil after being shut down, but that this was “inadvertent and temporary.”

Following a long legal dispute with Musk, a Supreme Court judge last month ordered the network, then known as Twitter, to be suspended. Some Brazilian users were taken aback to see that they could now access the platform from their phones once more.

X claimed in a statement that the temporary restoration was the result of the company switching network providers to keep serving its Latin American subscribers.

“This change resulted in an inadvertent and temporary service restoration to Brazilian users,” added the statement.

“While we expect the platform to be inaccessible again shortly, we continue efforts to work with the Brazilian government to return very soon for the people of Brazil.”

The reappearance of X was previously ascribed by the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (ABRINT) to an app update for Cloudflare software, which use dynamic IP addresses.

Musk was enraged by Brazil’s closure of X, which sparked a heated discussion about the boundaries of social media and freedom of speech both inside and beyond the nation.

In Brazil, there are about 22 million users of the social media platform.
On Wednesday, the hashtag “Twitter is back” was among the most popular across the nation.
