Taskforce to be formed to bring back laundered money: Salehuddin

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the interim government’s adviser on the ministries of Finance, Commerce, Science, and Technology, announced today that a task force will be established to recover misappropriated money.

He stated to reporters following a meeting with representatives of purchasing houses at his Secretariat office in the city that action has been taken against default loans, banks with issues are being reorganized, and the liquidity problem was addressed by the governor.

Nevertheless, Salehuddin stated that the cost of essential products will decrease within a few months.

The finance adviser responded, “Of course, there have been visible changes, as many things are evident,” when asked about the visible reforms since he took office.

The adviser stated, “We have reduced the duty on potatoes and onions and have issued instructions to guarantee their availability in the context of trade and commerce.”

Additionally, he discussed the monitoring of domestic markets, supplies, and prices.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) reduced taxes on the import of onions and potatoes earlier today in order to increase supply and moderate the increasing prices.

The customs authority has reduced the tariff on potato imports to 15 percent and on onion imports to 5 percent. These changes will be in effect until November 30.

“The revenue authority anticipates that the prices of both items will stabilize after the reduction in import duties,” stated the NBR in a statement.
