A’marching order’ to adopt and carry out reform initiatives at all levels was given today by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus to the secretaries of all ministries and divisions.
“Consultation must be held and opinions should be taken from the stakeholders, if necessary, to formulate the reform programmes,” he told the top bureaucrats at a meeting at the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) here.
The CA’s Press Wing issued a press brief after the meeting.
Speaking at the gathering, Professor Yunus stated that in keeping with the promise made by the student body during the revolt in July and August, a new Bangladesh must be constructed that guarantees honesty, devotion, and accountability in all areas.
He emphasized that in order to create the new Bangladesh, traditional ideas must be rejected and government initiatives must be implemented in novel methods that give the public interest top priority.
“By rooting out graft and easing services, the highest satisfaction of the commoners should be achieved,” the chief adviser said, adding that optimum use of public money must be ensured.
In order to guarantee accountability and transparency, Prof. Yunus urged the relevant authorities to guarantee fair competition in public procurement and to remove any barriers to it.
He gave orders to all ministries and divisions to submit time-bound action plans with a creative and citizen-friendly approach for short-, medium-, and long-term reform programs. These plans would be routinely examined and monitored.
The chief adviser stated that, for the benefit of the nation, the attention and favorable impression that the student-people movement generated around the world about the new Bangladesh must be fully utilized.
