57 pardoned Bangladeshi may work in UAE

According to international adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, fifty-seven sentenced Bangladeshis who were granted amnesty in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates (UAE) may be given the opportunity to work there once more.

“So far as I know, they may be able to work again in the UAE,” he told reporters at the foreign ministry here this afternoon.

The amnesty given to 57 Bangladeshi nationals serving prison terms in the United Arab Emirates, according to the foreign advisor, is a major accomplishment for Chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The President of the United Arab Emirates granted amnesty to 57 individuals who were serving lengthy sentences there at the Chief Advisor’s request, as a mark of respect for Dr. Yunus.

“With this amnesty, these 57 individuals are now free, and their families have been relieved from a major crisis,” Hossain said.

The question of amnesty for 57 Bangladeshis was the main topic of discussion between Zayed Al Nahyan and Prof. Yunus during their phone call on August 28, according to UAE President Alam.

The diaspora of Bangladesh organized protests overseas to show support for the student-people movement opposing the despotic Sheikh Hasina administration.

While conducting a protest in the UAE, the expatriates from Bangladesh were taken into custody.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus thanked the UAE President today for extending amnesty to all 57 Bangladeshis who had previously been found guilty by the UAE Federal Court after learning of the development.

In a letter to the UAE president, he said: “I avail the opportunity to convey our deepest gratitude to Your Highness for your benevolent decision to pardon the 57 Bangladeshi nationals who expressed solidarity with the recent students-mass revolution back home through demonstrations in a few cities in the United Arab Emirates.”
