According to a message from the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, eight more deaths were recorded today, bringing the total number of flood-related deaths to 67, including seven women and eighteen children.
The districts of Cumilla (17), Feni (26), Chattogram (6), Noakhali (11), Khagrachhari (one), Brahmanbaria (two), Moulvibazar (one), Lakshmipur (three), and Cox’s Bazar (six) were reported to have had 17 deaths. Moreover, one victim in the Moulvibazar district is still unaccounted for.
Districts Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar are among those affected by flooding.
According to the announcement, the Moulvibazar district and the districts of Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur are seeing less flooding.In Chattogram, Habiganj, Sylhet, Khagrachhari, Brahmanbaria, and Cox’s Bazar districts, the flood situation persisted as usual.
In addition, households are sending their residents back home from shelters since the nation’s flood situation has substantially improved. In areas vulnerable by flooding, communication systems are already commonplace.
The announcement said that the flood affected up to 51,08,202 persons in 504 unions and municipalities under 68 upazilas in 11 districts across the nation. A total of 6,05,767 families remained stranded while 3,06,741 people are staying at 3,615 shelter centres currently. A total of 32,830 cattle heads were also given shelter there. Some 472 medical teams have been working there to provide medical services to the affected people in the flood-hit 11 districts.
Regarding relief efforts, Taka 4.52 crore in cash, 20,650 metric tonnes of rice and 15,000 packets of dry food, Taka 35 lakh for baby food and Taka 35 lakh for fodder have been allocated for the 11 flood-hit districts, the release said.
However, 1,75,400 packets of relief materials including dry food, clothes and drinking water collected by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinators were sent for the distressed humanity in the flood-hit areas through the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).
Armed personnel delivered 22,010 packs of cooked meals and 3,45,140 packets of relief supplies to the flood-affected communities. 42,113 persons have received medical attention, and 42,816 people have been saved.
In addition, 153 individuals received treatment after being saved by helicopter. In areas hit by flooding, the military forces are providing medical care through a total of 24 camps and 18 medical teams. Moreover, hygiene products, clothing, medications, baby food, drinking water, and tablets for purifying water were given out.
