Rizwana for global collaboration for ambitious plastics treaty

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor for the environment, forests, and climate change, stated today that international cooperation is required to limit plastic pollution.

“We have an opportunity to push together for an ambitious Global Plastics Treaty. We need to work together on Biodiversity conservation and protection of traditional knowledge,” she said while virtually speaking at the Ministerial Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) organised in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, a ministry press release said.

The environment expert stated that developing a fair system for protection and use of shared waters and appreciating them are equally important.

She stated that there is an abundance of creativity, technology, and human capital that “we must tap into and share to the benefit of our peoples” in order to overcome all of these concerns.

According to Rizwana, cooperation is required on shared resources, or common utilities like shared rivers and forests.

“We also need to address our common concerns such as air pollution. Advancing real time data collection and information sharing on best practices will help countries such as Bangladesh break free from the chokehold of air pollution,” she said.

The advisor stated that by cooperating within CICA, all members must contribute to a sustainable future and guarantee environmental and climate justice for all women and men living in cities and villages, as well as future generations. “Let us strive together to achieve a zero carbon future,” she said.
