Govt should identify, punish money launderers soon: Mustafizur Rahman

Professor Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, a distinguished fellow of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), urged the interim administration today to reveal information concerning those implicated in money laundering and to ensure that they are swiftly and effectively punished.

“The process of bringing back the laundered money from Bangladesh is very complicated and time consuming. So, it is necessary to start the work quickly by appointing forensic experts,” he said while addressing as the chief guest a debate competition, held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in the capital.

According to Mustafizur Rahman, depositors shouldn’t be concerned about the bank reform initiative.

Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, the chairman of Debate for Democracy, proposed that swift legal action and punishment be taken against the money launderers and scammers.

He hoped that the current administration will soon release the white paper detailing all of the financial irregularities and corruption of the former administration.

To honor the memory of the students who lost their lives fighting against discrimination, there was a minute of silence before the debate tournament, which was sponsored by “Debate for Democracy,” got underway.

The debaters presented arguments on the issue of “Ensuring good governance in the financial sector” for the new Bangladesh.

Debaters of Bangladesh University won the competition defeating BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology.
