Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor on environment, forests, and climate change, announced today that Bangladesh will get low-cost river cleaning project implementation support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in major rivers, specifically Buriganga, Turag, and Balu.
According to her, Bangladesh’s action-oriented climate strategies, such as the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), will be implemented with ADB’s assistance.
At a meeting with ADB’s Country Director Edimon Ginting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the environment adviser disclosed the facts.
Rizwana Hasan highlighted the significance of youth and the private sector participation in environmental preservation initiatives.
She also emphasized the need of developing capacity and asked the ADB for help in setting up a training facility for officers in the Department of Environment (DoE).
Rizwana Hasan conveyed her gratitude for the Asian Development Bank’s continuous assistance in numerous climatic and environmental projects in Bangladesh.
In order to guarantee sustainable development and increase the nation’s resistance to climate change, she emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation.
In order to successfully handle these difficulties, creative techniques and financing channels were emphasized during the discussion.
Edimon Ginting reiterated ADB’s pledge to assist Bangladesh in fulfilling its climate and environmental objectives.
He talked about future plans to expand the ADB’s projects in the nation and stated that the bank will use AI technology to support efforts to clean up rivers.He also invited Rizwana Hasan to participate as a speaker in the High-level.
Meeting of the Climate Adaptation Investment Planning Forum (CAIP2024), to be held at the ADB Headquarters in Manila, Philippines, on September 17–18, 2024.
Senior representatives from the ADB and the ministry, as well as Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, attended the meeting.
