Iran hackers target Harris and Trump campaigns: Google

Google verified on Tuesday that hackers supported by Iran are aiming their attacks at US presidential contenders Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

According to a Google threat assessment, a hacker group called “APT42” associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted prominent people and entities in Israel and the US, including public figures and political campaigns.

Days after opponent Donald Trump’s campaign claimed that Iran was responsible for hacking it, Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris’s campaign announced on Tuesday that it had been hit by foreign hackers.

A Harris campaign staffer told AFP, “The FBI notified the legal and security teams in July that we were the target of a foreign actor influence operation.”

“We have robust cybersecurity measures in place and are not aware of any security breaches of our systems resulting from those efforts.”

According to the report, Google’s threat research team has observed that APT42 is still making fruitless attempts to breach the personal accounts of people connected to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and President Trump.
