According to a Palestinian envoy, President Mahmud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the next week to talk about the Gaza conflict.
The Palestinian envoy in Moscow was quoted by Russia’s state-run TASS news agency as saying that Abbas will arrive on Monday and see Putin on Tuesday.
Heading up against Hamas is the Palestinian movement Fatah.
The leaders will talk about what has happened in Gaza after the attacks on Israel on October 7, according to Ambassador Abdel Hafiz Nofal. “They will talk about Russia’s role, what can be done.”
“We are in a very challenging situation, and Russia is a close neighbor,” he continued. We must confer with one another.”
For many years, Moscow made an effort to maintain cordial ties with all of the key Middle Eastern parties, including Israel and the Palestinians.
Putin, meanwhile, has become more proximate to Israel’s adversaries, Iran and Hamas, following the Israel-Hamas conflict and Russia’s own offensive in Ukraine.
The Kremlin has urged moderation and frequently criticized Israel’s response to the strikes on October 7.
