Reporters were informed on the meeting’s conclusions by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain at the Bangladesh Secretariat here later in the day.
He said a condolence motion was adopted in today’s meeting expressing profound grief at the demise of those killed during the quota reform movement.
The cabinet secretary said Home State Minister Asaduzzaman Khan presented a report on the situation over the quota reform movement at the meeting and it was discussed. As a result, he said, the condolence motion was adopted and the meeting decided to observe the nationwide mourning tomorrow (Tuesday).
In response to a query, Mahbub Hossain stated that the home minister had reported on Sunday that 147 persons had died in this tragedy, and that three more dead had since been discovered.He said that 150 people have died as a result of this catastrophe.
According to the cabinet secretary, the “Moheshkhali-Kutubdia Integrated Development Authority Bill, 2024” draft was accepted by the cabinet.
