Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, is still in jail after new accusations were quickly presented against him, despite a Pakistani court overturning his conviction on charges of having an illegal marriage on Saturday.
In the days leading up to the February elections, Khan received three convictions, which he claims were staged to keep him from winning again.
All of those instances have since been at least partially overturned on appeal; in April, a treason conviction carrying a ten-year prison sentence was overturned, and in June, a fourteen-year graft sentence was suspended, while the conviction remains in place.
In addition, Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi received a seven-year term for allegedly breaking Islamic law by getting married too soon after her divorce.
But an Islamabad judge announced Saturday that the couple’s appeals were accepted.
