Eid-ul-Azha celebrated amid festivity across country

Today, Muslims nationwide observed Eid-ul-Azha, the second-biggest Islamic holiday, with appropriate seriousness and religious enthusiasm.

On the occasion of the sacred Eid-ul-Azha, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent out separate greetings to Muslims across the nation and the world.

Under the sponsorship of Dhaka South City Corporation, the main Eid-ul Azha congregation (jamaat) was organized at Jatiya Eidgah site next to the High Court (DSCC).

At the main Eid jamaat (congregation), prayers were performed by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, cabinet members, Supreme Court justices, MPs, senior political figures, diplomats, and high-ranking civil and military personnel.

Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Khatib Hafez Mufti Maulana Ruhul Amin conducted the prayers while Md Anisur Rahman performed duty as mukabbir.

After the jamaat, special prayers were offered seeking peace, progress and welfare of the people. Following the prayers, the devotees shook hands and embraced each other.

As in past years, the capital’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque hosted five congregations, or jamaat.

The first Eid jamaat began at 7 am, and the following four took place at 8 am, 9 am, 10 am, and 10.45 am, in that order.

At eight in the morning, the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban’s South Plaza hosted the Eid congregation.

A press release stated that the Eid Jamaat was attended by a number of lawmakers, JS officials, employees, and devotees, in addition to Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafesh Osman, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, MP, AB Tazul Islam, MP, JS Speaker’s husband Sayed Ishtiaq Hossain, Senior Secretary of the JS Secretariat KM Abdus Salam, and other lawmakers.

In Dhaka University, Eid Jamaats were held at the university’s central mosque -Masjidul Jamiya on the campus.

Eid congregations were also held at mosques and Eidgahs across the country.

On the first day of Eid today, after praying, believers offered livestock sacrifices in accordance with their ability in the hopes of obtaining boundless mercy from Almighty Allah. On the second day of Eid, which is tomorrow, some followers will also butcher livestock.

The Dhaka South and North City Corporations started their efforts this afternoon to clear the city of the debris left behind after the 24-hour period of sacrifice animals.

In order to adequately clean the city, the corporation authorities asked the residents to cooperate with their officials and personnel.

On the occasion of the sacred Eid-ul-Azha, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted all Freedom Fighters (FFs) around the nation today.

Like other occasions, the Premier sent flowers, fruits and sweetmeats to the war-wounded freedom fighters (FFs) and members of the martyred families at Martyred and War-wounded Freedom Fighters’ Rehabilitation Centre (Muktijoddha Tower-1) at Gaznavi Road in the capital’s Mohammadpur area as a mark of her good wishes for them.

PM’s Assistant Press Secretary A.B.M. Sarwer-e-Alom Sarker handed over the items to them, according to a press release of the press wing of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The war-wounded FFs and members of the martyred families thanked and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for remembering them on every national day and festival like the Independence Day, the Victory Day, Eid and Pahela Baishakh.

The law enforcement agencies implemented sufficient security measures to maintain law and order throughout the nation, especially in the capital city of Dhaka on the occasion of the sacred Eid-ul-Azha.

Special programming was aired on TV networks and radio stations, including the state-run Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, in honor of Eid-ul-Azha.

Inmates at government hospitals, jails, orphanages, safe houses, and shelter centers were given better nutrition.

Eid-ul-Azha is observed on the tenth day of the Zil Hajj month in the Hizri calendar. Approximately 4,500 years ago, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) offered to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS) on this day, as he voluntarily succumbed to his father’s will in order to please Allah.

But the Almighty Allah in His benign mercy spared Hazrat Ismail (AS) and instead sent a ram to be sacrificed.
