Eid-ul-Azha in Saudi Arabia on June 16

On Thursday, June 6, a crescent moon was observed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), signaling the start of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH-2024.

Thus, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Friday, June 7, will mark the start of the holy month; Saturday, June 15, is Arafat Day; and Sunday, June 16, is Eid-ul-Azha.

One of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar, Dhul-Hijja, began on Thursday, according to Saudi Arabia, which reported the sighting of the crescent. June 16 is Eid Al-Adha, the day when the crescent is seen.

On June 15, the day before the main Muslim holiday, Arafat Day, will occur.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Supreme Court of the Kingdom urged citizens to see the moon on June 6 (Dhu al-Qi’dah 29, 1445 AH) in the evening.

Muslims pray collectively, do acts of charity, and sacrifice an animal—typically a sheep—on Eid al-Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice.
