Clashes erupt at Israeli embassy protest in Mexico

According to AFP journalists, clashes between police and demonstrators occurred outside the Israeli embassy in Mexico on Tuesday as they demonstrated against the nation’s military campaign in the southern Gazan city of Rafah.

In the Lomas de Chapultepec district of the city, several demonstrators masked their faces and flung stones at riot police who were obstructing their way to the embassy complex.

About thirty of the 200 participants in the “Urgent action for Rafah” march began to tear down barriers that stood in their way of accessing the Israeli mission.

In addition to using tear gas, police repelled stones that demonstrators launched at them.

The protest was sparked by an Israeli strike that, according to Palestinian officials, killed forty-five people when it started a fire in a camp for displaced people outside of Rafah.
