The UN Democracy Fund-funded and UN-Habitat-technically supported groundbreaking initiative “Advancing Engagement by Setting Up Urban Youth Councils” by SERAC-Bangladesh was recently recognized with the 2024 Young Global Changer Recoupling Award at the Global Solutions Summit on May 6, 2024 in Berlin, Germany.
This award, which falls under the Reimagining Civic Engagement category, recognizes the creative strategy used by SM Shaikat, the Executive Director of SERAC-Bangladesh, and his colleagues to empower young people and encourage grassroots democratic involvement in Bangladesh.
This initiative’s selection from among more than 700 international programs worldwide highlights the idea’s importance for promoting young empowerment and democratic involvement.
The four cities where the Urban Youth Councils project is being conducted are Mymensingh, Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Narayanganj. Through this program, SERAC-Bangladesh has played a significant role in bringing about good change and changing the dynamics of young involvement in local decision-making both in Bangladesh and internationally.
