Japan to provide 2,294 m Japanese Yen to Bangladesh; deals signed

A sum of 2,294 million Japanese Yen, or around Taka 172.3162 crore or $15.31 million, would be given by the Japanese government to the “Project for the Improvement of Fish Landing Center of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation in Cox’s Bazar District.”

Under the direction of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) will carry out the project.

In this regard, Grant Agreement and Exchange of Notes were signed today between Bangladesh and Japan. Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), signed the Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreement on behalf of Bangladesh. IWAMA Kiminori, Ambassador of Japan in Bangladesh signed the ‘Exchange of Notes’ and ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative, JICA Bangladesh Office, signed the ‘Grant Agreement’ on behalf of Japan, said an ERD press release.

The purpose of the funding from Japan is to increase the effectiveness of netted fish landing and handling. Also, by modernizing the facilities and fishing gear at BFDC’s fish landing center in Cox’s Bazar, the distribution system and fish yield will both be increased.

According to the announcement, Japan is Bangladesh’s main bilateral development partner. Japan has invested $32.36 billion since gaining its independence. Japan has made a substantial contribution to the nation’s overall development.

Japan offers substantial grants and technical assistance in addition to soft loans for a range of initiatives, such as environmental preservation, socioeconomic development, and human resource development.
