After today’s sighting of the new moon in Bangladesh’s sky, the country will begin the holy month of Ramadan in 1445 Hijri tomorrow.
According to a press statement, the decision was made during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held this evening in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation (IF) at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Faridul Haque Khan, President of the National Moon Sighting Committee and Minister of Religious Affairs, presided over the gathering.
The holy Shab-e-Qadr, also known as Lailatul Qadr, will be observed on the night of April 6 (Saturday night), according to the decision. This is the night when the first verses of the holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims are supposed to fast from sunrise to sunset as a sign of austerity and self-control.
The holy month of Ramadan begins tomorrow, and President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hailed the Muslim Ummah worldwide as well as their fellow countrymen.
