UNDP launches “Sign Language E-Dictionary” on International Mother Language Day

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is launching an innovative “Sign Language E-Dictionary” in honor of International Mother Language Day 2024. The goal of the dictionary is to enable people to learn sign language and successfully interact with those who have speech and hearing problems.

According to a UNDP press release, the e-dictionary, which provides a thorough vocabulary of sign language, may be downloaded from the Google Play Store and accessed directly at https://ishara.sonket.org/.

UNDP’s continued commitment to advancing diversity, fairness, and accessibility in all domains is demonstrated by this effort.

Stefan Liller, the Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of the Sign Language E-Dictionary. “In a bid to foster communication and understanding for those with hearing and speech impairments, UNDP Bangladesh unveils a remarkable Sign Language Learning Dictionary,” he stated.

He continued, “This innovative initiative not only aligns with the spirit of International Mother Language Day but also reflects our ongoing efforts to promote diversity, equity, and accessibility in all aspects of our work. The Sign Language E-Dictionary is a powerful tool that allows normal individuals to learn and contribute to building a more inclusive and understanding society.”

In order to promote inclusivity and remove barriers to communication, UNDP invites people, groups, and organizations to investigate and make use of the Sign Language E-Dictionary.
