Social media’s population breaks through 5 billion: study

A report released on Wednesday claims that over 5 billion people, or around 62.3 percent of the world’s population, use social media regularly.

In comparison to the global population growth of 0.9 percent, the number increased by 5.6 percent last year, according to a survey by social media agency We are Social and media monitoring firm Meltwater.

Facebook on Meta has 2.19 billion users, making it the most popular social network. TikTok, with 1.56 billion, was just ahead of Meta’s Instagram, which was in second place with 1.65 billion.

The report warns that precise numbers are hard to come by because of automated accounts or people using different indentities.

The OpenAI-developed IA language model “ChatGPT” was the most searched-for entry on Wikipedia, demonstrating the growing interest in artificial intelligence.

The research used data that was gathered by Kepios, a digital consulting firm.
