On Tuesday, a Thai court sentenced one of the movement’s key leaders to four years in prison for allegedly insulting the monarch.
Anon Numpa was found guilty of violating Thailand’s strict lese-majeste laws for remarks he made in Bangkok in the year 2020, during the height of the street protests.
Anon was one of many demonstrators who voiced unheard-of requests for legislative reform that would shield the King Maha Vajiralongkorn and his immediate family from criticism.
Anon was given a four-year prison sentence by Bangkok’s Criminal Court after it determined on Tuesday that his remarks at the Democracy Monument constituted lese-majeste.
For disobeying a decree issued during an emergency, he was further penalized 20,000 baht ($550).
