The United States is still dedicated to resolving the Rohingya crisis, bringing justice to its victims, and holding those responsible for these atrocities accountable.
In order to accomplish this, the US said in a statement that it “remains committed to finding solutions to the crisis, justice for its victims, and accountability for those who committed these atrocities, through targeted sanctions, international pressure, and support to the national and international courts taking action against those who are responsible.”
Six years have passed since the savage campaign of rape, murder, and assault against Rohingya men, women, and children by the Burmese military was announced by the US. Three-quarters of a million Rohingya were compelled to flee with what little they could carry as a result of the regime’s murderous measures.
“We commend the people of Bangladesh for their generosity and hospitality in continuing to host nearly one million refugees,” it said.
“The American people contributed more than $2.1 billion since 2017 in response to the humanitarian crisis that unfolded across the region, including more than $1.7 billion in Bangladesh to support Rohingya refugees and the local communities that so generously host them, and we remain steadfast in our support,” it added.
The Rohingya who continue to seek asylum in Bangladesh and other nations in the area endured too much suffering.
According to the US statement, they should have the chance to live lives that are meaningful and purposeful, return to their homes in safety and dignity, and raise their families in peace.
“Until conditions in Burma improve, we call upon the international community to continue providing humanitarian aid to one of the world’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations.
“We must continue to support the government of Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi communities hosting Rohingya.
