Bangladesh Govt to procure 80 lakh liters of soybean oil

To address the nation’s rising need for edible oil, the government today authorized a plan for the purchase of almost 80 lakh liters of soybean oil.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved it at its 26th meeting this year, which was held virtually today with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presiding.

Following a suggestion from the Ministry of Commerce, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will purchase 80 lakh liters of soybean oil for the current fiscal year (FY24) under the local Open Tender Method (OTM) from Super Oil Refinery Limited for Taka 127.96 crore, with per-liter soybean oil costing Taka 159.95 as opposed to the previous price of Taka 15 per liter. The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will oversee binding, printing, and supply of approximately 3,53,81,239 textbooks from a contractor with a budget of about Taka 94.29 crore, according to another proposal from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, he claimed.

In addition, the NCTB would ensure binding, printing, and supply of approximately 4,45,57,007 textbooks from a contractor with a budget of about Taka 180.03 crore, as per a proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

A cost variation request from the Ministry of Railways and three other proposals from the Road Transport and Highways Division were also approved at the CCGP meeting in addition to these.
