The embassy will remain open to assist the 1500 Bangladeshis who are currently in Sudan, according to the foreign minister, AK Abdul Momen, who made the announcement on Monday night.
On Monday, the minister made this statement while holding a press conference in his office.
Prior to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s impending travel to Tokyo, Washington, and London, a press conference was conducted.
When asked if the Bangladeshis currently present in Sudan will be evacuated, Momen said, “I’ve heard that around 1,500 Bangladeshis are currently there. We have a small consulate general office there and a mission.
“Firstly, we have advised the people not to travel to Sudan because the situation there is unstable. We have told the people in our embassy to be cautious, to not get tangled up in any trouble. But as many of our citizens are there, we will keep it open. Because they have to serve the people.”
The ministry earlier on Saturday warned Bangladeshis not to travel to Sudan at the moment due to the ongoing turmoil in the nation.
A brutal power struggle involving the Sudanese army and the militia group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has so far claimed almost 400 lives.
To return their diplomats home, the US and the UK despatched troops to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. A lot of nations are working to relocate their nationals to a secure location.
