India witnesses 4,435 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours

India today saw the highest single-day increase in six months, with 4,435 new Covid-19 instances reported in the last 24 hours.

Covid-19 cases in India have been increasing in recent days, with daily new infections varying from 2,994 on April 1 to 3,824 on April 2, 3,641 on April 3, and 3038 on April 4.

With the new cases, India’s COVID-19 tally has risen to 4.47 crore (4,47,33,719), and the death toll has risen to 5,30,916, according to statistics updated this morning by the Indian health ministry.

Despite an increase in Covid instances in India’s Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, Punjab has seen a 13-fold increase in the number of daily positive cases in just three weeks.

According to data, the number of Covid cases in Delhi reached 521 on Tuesday, the greatest in more than seven months. On August 27 of last year, a higher case count was recorded.

Due to an increase in coronavirus cases in India, schools in Delhi have urged students to follow Covid protocol by wearing face masks on school grounds.
