Three more Bangladeshi RMG factories get LEED certification

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded three more Bangladeshi factories that produce ready-to-wear the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation for their environmentally friendly practices.

According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Energypac Fashions Extension Project in Gazipur Sadar and P.N Composite Limited at Konabari in Gazipur received the platinum-rated certification, while Dhaka Garments & Washing Ltd at Dakshin Varnahati, Dhaka, received the GOLD-rated certification from the USGBC (BGMEA).

According to BGMEA Director Mohiuddin Rubel in a statement to BSS, the RMG sector in Bangladesh now has 192 LEED approved factories, including 68 Platinum facilities. In addition, Bangladesh presently boasts the top 53 factories out of the first 100 in the world, as well as the top 8 factories out of the top 10 worldwide.

He claimed that out of Bangladesh’s 192 LEED-certified factories, 68 have so far received platinum ratings, 110 have received gold ratings, 10 have received silver ratings, and 4 have obtained certified ratings.

The BGMEA director claimed that the rise in LEED-certified factories is evidence of the nation’s RMG industry’s dedication to building more environmentally friendly factories.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he claimed that there is a clear global shortage of resources, including energy, and that Bangladesh must ensure that its resources are used to their fullest potential.
