Russia’s strategic forces carried out drills Wednesday, including a test launch of a ballistic missile from a submarine. This further stokes concerns that a nuclear weapon could be deployed in the Ukraine war.
Nuclear-capable forces under the command of Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted drills in various locations throughout the country. These drills come amid claims from Moscow, without evidence, that Kyiv is in the process of developing a “dirty bomb.”
On Monday, the Russian foreign ministry posted photographs of nuclear materials on social media it said depicted “Ukraine’s capacities to create the ‘dirty bomb.'”
On Wednesday, Slovenia disputed the authenticity of the photo, claiming that it was taken by their own nuclear waste management agency back in 2010.
Dragan Barbutovski, an advisor of Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, said the painting depicted smoke detectors.
