In “Deadpool 3,” Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine. On Tuesday, Ryan Reynolds revealed the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine on social media, according to Variety.
“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now,” Reynolds said in the video, referencing the D23 Expo in early September.
“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea,” he added.
“Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asked as Jackman walks by in the background.
“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replied. The video ends with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” — subtitled as “I will always love Hugh” — and a “Coming Hughn” teaser. The Deadpool logo appeared, then is quickly sliced up by Wolverine’s adamantium claws.
Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Shawn Levy has been hired to helm “Deadpool 3,” which will formally enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Jackman played Wolverine last for X-Men fans in James Mangold’s R-rated “Logan” from 2016. Since Wolverine famously perished at the end of the movie, Jackman has frequently said that it was his swansong for the character. He may or may not make an appearance in “Deadpool 3,” which hits theaters on September 6, 2024.
